In the Spring of 2017 St. Matthew’s Cathedral Arts launched Project Hope, in collaboration with two Dallas-area artists, to provide a safe and encouraging creative space for those who most need hope and inspiration in their lives. Awarded a Special Support Grant from the City of Dallas Office of Cultural Affairs and the Texas Commission on the Arts, this project provided a free open art studio with professional instruction to uniquely serve the homeless community.
Teaching artists Cristina Estrella Riggs and Jessica L. Bell were granted classroom space and the Sundermann Gallery in order to create, exhibit and offer for sale original artwork by homeless Dallas citizens, as a means to improve connections with the community and possibly generate income, at no cost to the participants. The completed artworks was displayed through May 19, 2017.
