TO OUR PATRONS

The work of St. Matthew’s Cathedral Arts has become a valued thread in the social fabric of our city. Our mission elevates and shares the best of human creativity, from wherever it emerges. In celebrating the diversity with which God has endowed humanity, the arts inevitably give a voice to those who suffer the scourge of oppression. The seeds of hatred, fear and division are too easily sown among us again and again, bearing only the fruits of destruction. Suffering only continues if we do not act. The Holy Scriptures teach that failure to act for the common good distances us from each other and from our Creator. In the Golden Rule, the Parable of the Good Samaritan and the new commandment to “love one another,” Jesus directly provides guidance for how we should proceed. We pledge to do our part in this important work through our programming and featured artists, as we lean into a “yet more excellent way” (1 Corinthians 12:31). To quote Martin Luther King, Jr., “If I cannot do great things, I can do small things in a great way. Change does not roll in on the wheels of inevitability, but comes through continuous struggle.”
