March 10, 2020 at 10:30 AM
| FreeSince the 1930’s, when Ermance Rejebian began telling stories about books at Munger Place Methodist, Dallas has maintained an unusual tradition of small book review clubs. On Tuesday, March 10 at 10:30 am, Cathedral Arts is honored to present Nancy Lippincott Ashley from the Dallas Professional Book Reviewers Association, in a lively discussion of A Kingdom of Their Own: The Story of the Palmers of Glen Eyrie by Stephen J. May.
These second Tuesday meetings in the Justus Sundermann Gallery include a 10:30 coffee, 10:45 presentation and an optional Club Members luncheon at 11:35 ($20.00 for non-members). Please contact Andrea Foster at 214.341.3432 by Thursday, March 5 to make a lunch reservation.
About the book:
A vividly written biography of one of Colorado’s first families. General Palmer, founder of Colorado Springs and the Denver and Rio Grande Railroad, is well known to Coloradans. But lesser known and just as compelling in many ways, are his wife Queen and their daughters, who inhabited one of the great houses in the West, Glen Eyrie. Almost like a fairy tale in its conception, their relationship was a fascinating blend of frontier challenges and gracious living amid the Wild West of the 1870s and ’80s. It’s the Downton Abbey of the West, with a strong central character (General Palmer) surrounded by a loyal but headstrong wife and growing daughters.
